294. What does “Confusion created by Shaitan” mean?

Verse (22:52) of the Quran says the shaitan will create confusions in the mind of those to whom the Quran was recited.

‘ The root word in Arabic is ‘umniyyat’,that we have translated as ‘recited to’

This word has a dual meaning as ‘mind’ and ‘ a message read out to’

Some translators have rendered it as meaning the ‘mind’, then the verse conveys the message that “ Shaitan puts evil thoughts in the minds of prophets”.

Based on such translations people like Salman Rushdie were encouraged to write books (in the name of literature) like “ Satanic Verses” He argued that Shaitan indeed can put verses in Prophet Muhammad.

People who translated wrongly such verses are solely responsible for stupid arguments put forth by people like Salman Rushdie.

When the Almighty has said He takes the responsibility of safeguarding he verses, there is no chance the Shaitan can put in evil thoughts in the mind of prophets.

There would not be any vulnerability if the meaning is understood as “ message read out.”

The message that as to be understood from this verse is, the messengers when they read out their messages to the people, they in turn subject it to various skepticisms, and objections instigated by the Shaitan.

But the Almighty would not let these kind of confusions grow further in their mind and assert His teachings (messages) in their hearts, is what is conveyed in this verse.
