309. Eight years of service as ‘Mahar’.
This verse (28:27) of the Quran speaks of women’s rights granted to them in a married life.
Prophet Musa accepted the condition to work for a person for a period of eight years as ‘Mahar’ in return for getting married to the person’s daughter.
This event stands as an example to show people who deceive women of their respectful dower, and those offering a pittance as ‘Mahar’ to them.
