64.Saturday.Promises that are required to be adhered to.
In these verses (2:224, 2:225, 3:77, 5:89, 16:91, 16:94, 58:16, 63:2) of the Quran, laws regarding upkeep of promises are being spoken of.
If a person undertakes to commit an act in the name of Allah, he should either fulfill it or find a remedy as said in verse 5:89.of the Quran. If neither is done he is liable for punishment.
Some people instantly without any thought say “I promise in the name of Allah”. Making a promise without any intention is not punishable says verse 2:225 of the Quran.
But making promises in the name of Allah to deceive others, or to safeguard oneself is punishable say the verses 2:224, 3:77, 16:91, 16:92, 16:94, 58:16, 63:2 of the Quran.
People who want to deceive others by not repaying their dues and others who avoid facing some difficulties, should refrain from making promises in the name of Allah and seek reforms in their behavior on coming across these verses.
Using Allah as a witness to lies and not fulfilling promises made in his name are grave crimes.
